Lobsang found us a great two-bedroom apartment overlooking the hills in McLeod. He knew a monk who was going abroad while we were in India, and he agreed to let us stay in his place.
Here we have attached the pictures of room where we booked for you and your Brother.
The apartment is owned by Mr. Singh, who lives in this luxurious house just in back. He has a dog named Timmy, which I’ll get back to later…
The front door comes complete with the Kalachakra Tenfold Powerful symbol, a common image on the monasteries around here.
It turns out that although my room has a bed, it isn’t much of a bedroom—it’s more of an altar room where an entire moth civilization has developed. At night, they venture out into the other rooms of the house like little party moths—”Hey guys, let’s check out the new mercury vapor lamp in the sitting room, it’s totally happening.”
We were warned to lock the doors to prevent monkeys from getting in. Every entry into the house has security latches, suggesting the wildlife is pretty ambitious around here.
Through Bennett’s room, you can get to a narrow porch in the back, looking out over McLeod and Lower Dharamshala. Living in San Francisco, often in viewless homes, I’ve promised myself that if I ever had a great view, I’d appreciate it every day. Here, I’ll live up to that promise.
